I do not know either what she meant or what he intends.
I do not know either her meaning or his intentions.
If people decide without enough persuasive information,...
If a decision is made without enough persuasive information,...
C.取代諸如從句中“the fact that”的用法
原句:The fact that I denied what he accused me of impressed the jury.
My denial of his accusations impressed the jury.
When I denied his accusations, I impressed the jury.
b. In denying his accusations, I impressed the jury.
D.名詞化部分用在there is/are的后面
原句:We demand that the government stop taxing entertainment.
There is a demand for an end to taxation on entertainment.
原句:The floods considerably eroded the land.
There was considerable erosion of the land from the floods.
The police conducted an investigation into the matter.
改后:The police investigated the matter.
Our discussion is concerned with a tax cut.
改后:We discussed a tax cut.
原句:a. First, she reviewed the evolution of the dorsal fin.
b. There was a first a review of the evolution of the dorsal fin.
改后:First, she reviewed how the dorsal fin evolved.
Their cessation of hostilities was because of their personnel losses.
改后:They ceased hostilities because they lost personnel.
原句:The instability of the motor housing did not preclude the completion of the field trials.
改后:Even though the motor housing was unstable, the research staff completed the field trials.
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?Your job has more effect on your happiness than your living environment does.Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
For a truly peaceful existence, a person needs both a comfortable and satisfying career, as well as a happy living environment. However, one’s living environment is probably more important for contentment than one’s job, because people spend far more time at home than they do at word, and it is easier to change jobs than living environments.
One way of judging the impact a certain factor has on our lives is by looking at how much time we spend exposed to it. In this sense, there’s no contest between the career and living environment: even the hardest-working employees still spend the majority of their time at home.Even if problems occur on the job, most people try of put those problems aside when they get to their house or apartment. People eat, sleep, bond with friends and family, and relax in their homes. My mother sometimes works as many as sixty hours per week, but still gets to relax when she gets home each night. Despite working so many hours, she still spends the majority of her time in her own house.Since we experience the majority of our happy time at home, it is obvious that living environment affects us more than our job.
Another reason living environment is more crucial to happiness than career is that it is much more difficult to change our home environment than it is a job. Most people only change apartments or house at most once a year, due to lease agreements and mortgages. However, changing jobs or companies is much easier, and more common. Changing living situations requires more planning and commitment. When I had to transfer to a new city for my career, it was much harder to deal with my living situation than to get settled into a new position at work.Due to relative difficulty associated with changing one’s home environment as opposed to changing one’s job, it should be abundantly clear just how important said home environment is to our overall happiness.
Home is our comfort zone, the place where we unwind and relax. Home life affects our happiness more than career. After all, because of the amount of time spent at home as well as the difficulty of changing homes, the place we choose to live is often the very cornerstone of our entire lives.

Traditionally, dresses were manufactured to keep privacy. Therefore, many are inclined to believe that clothes serve as nothing but fig leaves. Be that as it may, I cannot agree with this statement. The way a person dressed strongly indicates his or her personality. I intend to have further illustrations in the following aspects.
Granted that we obtain a little from others' outfit. It is, more often than not, the limited spare time that results in the awful dress style. A person who stays up all night to finish the project before the deadline wears pajamas outside because of his responsibility. In this situation, we are too quick to define him just because of his appearance. However, this situation is rare. Different dress styles basically demonstrate ones' personality.
First, dressing neatly usually suggests high efficiency. It is not difficult to imagine doctors with the neat suit will certainly make their patients relax. Usually, a patient in the first treatment will be naturally accompanied with great mental tension. Seeing the doctors wearing neat dress, they tend to have the first impression that the doctors are professional and trustworthy. Hence, they tend to cooperate with doctors, which will definitely ensure the efficiency of treatment. By contrast, few patients would have guts to receive treatment if the doctors, dressed in rags, seem not to be very professional.
Furthermore, the color of varied dressing styles can dictate different personalities. It is widely acknowledged that dark colors give an aura of authority, while lighter pastel shades suggest approachability. If a candidate, wearing a green T-shirt and a pair of red trousers, takes an interview for bank clerks, I deem that the chance of surviving the interview is slim, because unappropriated wearing means informality at the first sight. What he wears indicates that the job candidate does not like to follow the routine, which will convey the message of unconformity to clients. In contrast, if he wears dark dress for the interview, he will deliver a sense of conformity and decency to employers and customers. That is the reason why In order to deliver the message that their employers are kind and easy-going, we witness that so many clerks working in the bank wears dark or lighter colors clothes.
In general, by observing the ways a person dressed, we have the basis to get to know his character since distinct people's styles can give us the clues of people's personalities. Thus, I agree with the statement.
Some people prefer to ask others for help
Some people prefer to ask others for help; others prefer to solve the problem with their own knowledge. Which is your choice?
Such is human nature that everyone longs for happiness in our life. Unfortunately, on the path to pursue happiness, we are likely to face various problems. How to solve them? Should we rely on ourselves to remove the obstacle or turn toothers for a cure? From my perspective, it is more reasonable to ask others for help.
Admittedly, always hinging on others to solve problems might be irrational in some cases. For example, if you ask an acquaintance with whom you haven’t a close tie to lend you a hand, he might be reluctant, because most of us have our own care and concern. Besides, some people are unwilling to shoulder the responsibility for the advice they offer. It’s not a rare case when we ask our friend for advice on what major to choose only to get a reply: “Well, it’s really hard to say. Who knows what your real interest is? Who knows what major will be popular when you graduate?”
In spite of the points mentioned above, I still cling to the idea that we should depend on others for the following reasons.
First of all, asking others for help can save us much valuable time, time that we can use for other purposes. As is known to all, most people in contemporary society are always burdened with endless stress and strain. To be admitted to prestigious universities, schoolchildren have to burn midnight oil to out do their peers in exams; likewise, university students can do nothing but to work against the clock to lend themselves an edge over others in the talent market so that they can land adecent job. Given the quickening pace of life, how can we expect us to remove all the obstacles only by ourselves?
In addition, turning to others for help is an efficient way for us to enlarge our circle of friends. It is not a rare case that friendship might be formed after we ask others for help. Take myself as an example. After helping me find a cure for my personal health problem, one of my colleagues has become my best friend. Now, when in trouble,he also asks for my advice. No wonder some even state that it is an efficient way to find friends by “bothering” others for their help.Sounds surprising? It is a discovery revealed inrecent research conducted by a group of leading experts.
Most importantly, it is the only choice to call for help when the solution to a problem requires expertise. Itis known to all that today’s society differs greatly from what it was before. Even a century ago, most folks could be self-sufficient: they grew grain on their own land and wove cloth on their own looms, which seems unimaginable in modern society. Unlike the “good old days”, modern society is a huge complex machine in which each person can serve only as a tiny part. For example, City dwellers depend on farmers for grainwhile farmers rely on factory workers for industrial products; in the same way, factory workers may temporarily drown our worries in soap operas shown on the screen while film-makers cannot have a film produced, however talented they might be, without the talents of play wrights, directors, photographers, actors or actresses.
Why not ask others for solution when necessary?Good or bad, this might be the best choice left to us.
