We live in a rural area of the San Francisco Bay Area. Most of what we see is beauty and nature. One of the exceptions to the beauty is the litter that some people throw out of their windows as they are driving on the rural roads.

Picking up litter is only one of an endless supply of possible helping rituals. You might like holding a door open for people, visiting lonely elderly people in nursing homes, or shoveling snow off someone else’s driveway. Think of something that seems effortless yet helpful. It’s funny, personally rewarding, and can be a good example. And everyone benefits.

I would often get up early to watch the sunrise when it was not yet quite light and all was quiet except for the droning of the ship engine.
要點(diǎn)：
本段重點(diǎn)在于合譯，譯者增用 了when, and, except for幾個(gè)連接詞 ，把漢語表達(dá)的意思串聯(lián)了起來,表達(dá)的邏輯之美由此而生 。
天空還是一片淺藍(lán)，顏色很淺。轉(zhuǎn)眼間天邊出現(xiàn)了一道紅霞，慢慢地在擴(kuò)大它的范圍，加強(qiáng)它的亮光。我知道太陽要從天邊升起來了，便不轉(zhuǎn)眼地望著那里。

2，“機(jī)器的響聲”譯為the droning of the ship engine.?！皺C(jī)器”這里指輪船上的steam engine,即蒸汽發(fā)動(dòng)機(jī)，不宜譯為macine.另外“響聲”譯為droning,表示機(jī)器的單調(diào)低沉的嗡嗡響聲，較單純的sound更有形象感
3，“淺藍(lán)”=bluish，意為“帶點(diǎn)藍(lán)的，淺藍(lán)色的”， -ish這個(gè)后綴表示”帶…性質(zhì)的，稍…的“，在《離別》和《杜鵑》中，我們也見到過此類構(gòu)詞法，這類表示顏色的詞大家要注意，因?yàn)槲膶W(xué)作品中出于細(xì)節(jié)刻畫的需要，會(huì)將顏色描寫得十分具體，翻譯時(shí)也要注重選詞的準(zhǔn)確和美感哦~
4，“天邊”是指海天交接之處，即“地平線”，譯為the horizon，之后的“那里”文中處理為the distant edge of the sea,避免了重復(fù)
5，“一道紅霞”也可譯為a streak of rosy dawn或a rosy streak of dawn
綜述：
果然過了一會(huì)兒，在那個(gè)地方出現(xiàn)了太陽的小半邊臉，紅是真紅，卻沒有亮光。這個(gè)太陽好像負(fù)著重荷似的一步一步、慢慢地努力上升，到了最后，終于沖破了云霞，完全跳出了海面，顏色紅得非?？蓯?。一剎那間，這個(gè)深紅的圓東西，忽然發(fā)出了奪目的亮光，射得人眼睛發(fā)痛，它旁邊的云片也突然有了光彩。

3，“圓東西”譯為orb，較round thing更加形象~
4，“顏色紅得非?？蓯邸奔础鞍l(fā)出可愛的紅光”譯為be aglow with a lovely red,aglow意為“發(fā)亮的，發(fā)紅的”
5，”射得人眼睛發(fā)痛“譯為dazzling my eyes until they stung,其中until在此意為”以至于…”
6,” 它旁邊的云片也突然有了光彩”為了避免再起一句，譯者轉(zhuǎn)換了主語與前句進(jìn)行了合譯，原文中幾個(gè)小分句都圍繞著“ 深紅的圓東西” 這個(gè) 中心點(diǎn)，因此在翻譯時(shí)，把 它作為主語 ， 再運(yùn)用 兩個(gè)并 列 的現(xiàn)在 分詞短語 把 語 意融 合 在一 起 ，結(jié) 構(gòu)緊湊 、 意思連貫 ， 同時(shí)也符合 英語 “ 頭輕 尾重 ” 的表達(dá)習(xí)慣

本文最突出的特點(diǎn)就是擬人手法的運(yùn)用，一般翻譯時(shí)會(huì)通過動(dòng)詞，副詞，從句的使用，盡量將其“擬人”的意思譯出來~另外，注意本段人性化動(dòng)詞的靈活使用，例如“跳出”譯為emerged from
有時(shí)太陽走進(jìn)了云堆中，它的光線卻從云里射下來，直射到水面上。這時(shí)候要分辨出哪里是水，哪里是天，倒也不容易，因?yàn)槲揖椭豢匆娨黄瑺N爛的亮光。

3，此句 譯 文 中有 3處 使 用 了 頭 韻 ： sun/ shed / straight /seawater 、 difficult和distinguish、 s k y 和 s e a 。體現(xiàn)了散文的美感，讀起來也是朗朗上口滴~
4，the sun nonetheless shed its rays straight onto the sea water中 ， 將 原 文 “ 光線從云里射 下來 ”“ 直射到水面上 ” 兩個(gè)動(dòng)作合譯，讀起來一氣呵成，流暢自然~后面直接用making連接兩個(gè)句子，也體現(xiàn)了原文的簡潔
有時(shí)天邊有黑云，而且云片很厚，太陽出來，人眼還看不見。然而太陽在黑云里放射的光芒，透過黑云的重圍，替黑云鑲了一道發(fā)光的金邊。后來太陽才慢慢地沖出重圍，出現(xiàn)在天空，甚至把黑云也染成了紫色或者紅色。這時(shí)候發(fā)亮的不僅是太陽、云和海水，連我自己也成了明亮的了。這不是很偉大的奇觀么?

3，scarlet(緋紅，猩紅)，本段乃至全文對于顏色的描寫都非常細(xì)致，值得借鑒和總結(jié)~
4，“這時(shí)候發(fā)亮的不僅是太陽、云和海水，連我自己也成了明亮的了?！弊g為At the moment, apart from the sun，the clouds and the seawater, I too was luminous. 是作者借景抒情，不知不覺地融入到自然環(huán)境當(dāng)中 ，情和景 在此刻完全交融在一起了。” 譯者刻意調(diào)整句子重心，將這種 遞進(jìn)關(guān)系傳神地傳達(dá)給了讀者 ，主次分明，突出此時(shí)此“ 我 ” 的融情于景 。
