初中就學(xué)過的why not，看得懂，就是不敢用
看到Why not/why don't you 時(shí)我們第一反應(yīng)是「為什么不...」, 自然而然理解為一種「反問」，所以我們使用時(shí)通常也只有如下用法：
This option doesn't work. Why not try another? 這個(gè)方法行不通，為什么不試試另一個(gè)呢?
- I'm going to buy an iPhone 8.
- Why not buy an iPhone XR? 怎么不買iPhone XR呢?
- You'd better not go out tonight.
- Why not? 為什么不行?
在我們的文化中，反問很容易讓人聯(lián)想到質(zhì)疑，it's a fine line, 稍有不慎就讓人感覺不舒服，所以并不是一種很禮貌的行為，像是一個(gè)很bossy人嘮叨為什么不這樣，為什么不那樣，所以我們?cè)谛枰硎咀鹁吹膱龊隙疾粫?huì)用。
但在英語里，Why not/Why don't并不只有字面上「反問」的意思，還可以表達(dá)「(非常)贊同」、「建議」，反而是一種較禮貌的說法。
比如很多時(shí)候，老外就直接把Why not當(dāng)Yes用，用句號(hào)結(jié)尾，而不是問號(hào)。
- Can I borrow your pen?
- Why not. 沒問題。
- Let's go to movies tonight.
- Why not. 好啊。
- Do think we can use this material?
- Why not. 當(dāng)然可以
這里的why not 其實(shí)等于 I don't see a reason why not.
第二種情況是表示「建議」，是一種商量的語氣，= How about/What about, 也大膽放心用就好。
很多廣告就喜歡用Why not來引誘顧客?？聪旅孢@個(gè)廣告大家就知道了Why not在這里并沒有反問之意，而是指「快來體驗(yàn)一下吧」，建議語氣。

It's Sunday. Why don't you come over to my place? 今天是周末，你來我家怎么樣?(這里不是問「你為什么不來我家」)。
- I wanted to make a phone call but my phone is dead.我想打個(gè)電話但是手機(jī)沒電了。
- Why not use mine? 你用我的吧
It's a successful year for the company. Why not have a big party to celebrate it? 今年公司業(yè)績不錯(cuò)，我們開個(gè)大的party來慶祝怎么樣?
電影《尼羅河上的慘案》開頭里，Jackie極力把自己未婚夫推薦給朋友Linet做管家時(shí)，Linet說
Why don't you bring him down tomorrow? 你明天帶他來吧。
顯然是建議的語氣，翻譯是很正的，沒有直譯成「你明天為什么不帶他來」。
最后再提醒一句，Why not/Why don't you是表示將來的事情，如果要表示過去，就要用Why didn't you。當(dāng)責(zé)備別人過去為什么沒做某事時(shí)要用 Why didn't you.
例：
- I'm feeling sick.
- 1. Why didn't you go to see a doctor?你怎么還沒去看醫(yī)生啊? (責(zé)備為什么沒早點(diǎn)去)
- 2. Why not/don't you go to see a doctor? 你去看看醫(yī)生吧(建議)
華人里新加坡人是西化得很成功的，已經(jīng)把Why not /Why don't you用到極致，基本上把中文里「(做)....怎么樣」全部用Why not表達(dá)了。

Why與Why not的用法
記得某年我教仁愛版英語九年級(jí)上冊(cè)某單元某一Section時(shí)(因疫情在家，沒找到相關(guān)課本，具體哪個(gè)Section遺忘)，我發(fā)現(xiàn)了一個(gè)Why在使用中的用法錯(cuò)誤，于是給課本編輯打電話說明。第二天編輯打回電話，認(rèn)為我的觀點(diǎn)正確，并于再版時(shí)做了改正。然而，今年我教仁愛版英語八年級(jí)上冊(cè)Unit 3，Topic 3中的Section B時(shí)，又發(fā)現(xiàn)了同樣的問題。由此可見，Why與Why not的用法受漢語的影響是多么嚴(yán)重!現(xiàn)引述課本句子如下：

6. Why should … is used when we are annoyed about something:
Why should old people have to worry about health insurance?
Note:Why should I? as a response is very direct and rude.

7. “Why not ...?” is used to make a suggestion:

why not后習(xí)慣上只接動(dòng)詞原形，不能接帶to不定式或現(xiàn)在分詞。
如：何不靜觀其結(jié)果呢?誤：Why not just to wait and see what happens?正：Why not just wait and see what happens?你一臉倦容，怎么不休假呢?誤：You’re looking tired. Why not taking a holiday?正：You’re looking tired. Why not take a holiday?
注：在一定的語境中，有時(shí)why not后可省略動(dòng)詞原形。
如：A：Let’s meet at the station.我們?cè)谲囌疽娒姘伞：Why not at the hotel?在飯店不行嗎?句中的why not后可視為省略了動(dòng)詞wait。
三、why not的結(jié)構(gòu)形式

四、why not的隱含時(shí)態(tài)
按英語習(xí)慣，why not…結(jié)構(gòu)只用于提出建議，不用于表示責(zé)備，即只用于指將來的情況，而不用于指過去情況。
如：我那時(shí)是能借錢給你的。你為什么沒有向我借?誤：I could have lent you the money. Why not ask me?正：I could have lent you the money. Why didn’t you ask me?我喊你的名字的時(shí)候，你為什么不來?誤：Why not come when I called your name?正：Why didn’t you come when I called your name?
五、用于某些特殊表達(dá)中
如用于I don’t see why not，其意為“沒問題”“好呀”。
