看
look“看(強調(diào)動作)”,而see“看(強調(diào)結(jié)果)”,例:He looked but saw nothing.他看了看,但是什么也沒看見。
詞根pect,spect=look
respect=re(again)+ spect反復地看,作動詞“尊敬”,作名詞“尊敬;方面”,例:We respected our professor in many respects. 我們在很多方面都尊敬我們的教授。The students show great respect for their history teacher.學生對他們的歷史老師表示出極大的尊重。
其形容詞有respectable“值得尊敬的”,如a respectable leader一個值得尊敬的領(lǐng)導
respectful“尊敬的”,如be respectful to other people’s views尊重其他人的觀點
respective“分別的,各自的”,例:My husband and I aregoing to visit our respective teachers.我和我的丈夫都要去拜訪各自的老師。
inspect=in + spect(look)作動詞“檢查”,例:He inspected the car carefully before he bought it.買車之前他仔細地檢查了那車。
其名詞Inspector“檢查員”
prospect=pro(forward)+ spect(look)向前看,名詞“期望,展望”,例:There’s not much prospect of Mr. Smith’s being elected as Congressman.史密斯先生被選為議員的希望是不大的。如a job with excellent prospects一份很有希望的工作
perspective=per(through)+ spect(look)+ ive從頭到尾穿過去看,名詞1“透視法”2“看待事情的角度”,例:We must view the things in the proper perspective.我們必須從正確的視角來看待問題。
aspect=as(to)+ pect(look)名詞1(去被別人看到的第一印象)“外表”,如a little girl of pleasing aspect有著招人喜愛的外表的小女孩,2“(問題等的)方面”,例:The training program covers every aspect of the job.這個培訓包含了工作的每一個方面。
spectator=spect(look)+ ator看的人,名詞“(指比賽或表演)觀眾,旁觀者”,例:At the end of match, the spectators went wild with excitement.比賽結(jié)束后,觀眾們激動得發(fā)狂。
speculate=spec(look)+ ulate動詞“投機”(見機行事,看準了空子往里鉆),如speculate on the stock market進行證券投機
retrospect=retro(back)+ spect(look)向后看,動詞“回顧”,例:In retrospect, it’s easy to see why we were wrong.回顧一下,就可以很容易看到為什么我們錯了。

suspicious=sus(向下)+ pic(look)+ i + ous“可疑的;引起懷疑的”,例:I am suspicious of that woman - I think she may have stolen sth. from our shop.我對那個女人很懷疑,我認為她可能從我們的商店偷了什么東西。
